Visit Official WebsiteAIRI is an open-source 'digital life / AI desktop pet' project by the MoeruAI community, inspired by the virtual streamer Neuro-sama — built to let you truly own a cyber companion life, anywhere, anytime. It is not a skinned chatbot but a fully local-first AI being: real-time voice chat, the ability to play games like Minecraft and Factorio with you, integration with Discord and Telegram, and a Live2D / VRM-driven avatar with expressions and motion. Technically it is entirely local — in-browser WebGPU inference, DuckDB WASM local memory and RAG, and on the desktop it can use NVIDIA CUDA / Apple Metal; it ships multi-provider voice synthesis (ElevenLabs, Azure, OpenAI-compatible, local Kokoro, and more). You can install it free via winget / Homebrew / Scoop, or try the Web version right in the browser.
AIRI is launched by the open-source organization MoeruAI as a 'soul container' project inspired by Neuro-sama, aiming to give ordinary people a cyber companion life (cyber waifu / digital pet) they can own and interact with anytime. Development has continued since 2025, shipping Web, macOS and Windows builds installable via winget / Homebrew / Scoop.
Built from day one with Web technologies — WebGPU, WebAudio, Web Worker, WebAssembly, WebSocket; the desktop build can use NVIDIA CUDA and Apple Metal (via candle) for local inference by default. Capabilities include in-browser pure-local WebGPU inference, DuckDB WASM local memory and RAG, client-side speech recognition and multi-provider voice synthesis, VRM / Live2D avatar driving, and integrations with Discord / Telegram plus Minecraft / Factorio co-play.
A global open-source AI virtual-life project for developers and tech enthusiasts, with multilingual UI (including Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, French, and more), funded by the community via OpenCollective / Patreon / Ko-fi. The project explicitly states it has no officially minted cryptocurrency or token.
AIRI is among the most serious open-source AI virtual-life projects: local-first, self-hostable, and able to voice-chat and game with you in real time, with both technical ambition and maturity. But it is still early and aimed at technical users, so the barrier for ordinary users is high.
